FAQ

Afrinet Carbon is a project developer based in Kenya that specializes in biochar carbon removal. We operate at the intersection of agriculture and climate technology, turning agricultural waste from sugar mills into stable carbon that can be stored in the soil for centuries. Our work is grounded in the sugar belt of Western Kenya, specifically in Ndhiwa.
As sugarcane grows, it naturally absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere. Usually, when the waste (bagasse) is left to rot or is burned, that carbon is released back into the air. We intercept this waste and use a process called pyrolysis to bake it in a oxygen limited environment. This converts the carbon into a solid, charcoal like material called biochar. When this biochar is added to farmland, the carbon is permanently locked away, and the soil becomes more fertile.
Western Kenya produces significant amounts of bagasse as a byproduct of sugar milling. This creates a massive, consistent supply of biomass. By processing this waste, we solve a logistical challenge for sugar mills while creating a high quality carbon removal solution that benefits the surrounding agricultural community.
Biochar acts as a permanent soil enhancer. It improves the soil's ability to retain water and nutrients, which is critical for farmers facing unpredictable weather patterns. By distributing biochar to local farmers, we help them increase their crop yields and build long term climate resilience.
Integrity is our priority. We develop our projects according to rigorous international standards for biochar carbon removal. We maintain a clear chain of custody from the sugar mill to the farmer's field, ensuring that every tonne of CO2 removed is measurable, transparent, and verified by third party auditors.
We work with a variety of partners, including sugar millers looking for waste management solutions, agricultural organizations interested in soil health, and corporate buyers seeking high integrity carbon removal credits.
